Christian Gouges regards 2003 as a special vintage of which he aims to keep a lot of in his own cellar. These are from tiny yields and have huge depth and latent power. The terroir is still very focused with the Chaignots a tad more open than the Pruliers, which is dense and backward. |

ETIENNE GRIVOT, VOSNE-ROMANEE
A quite stupendous range of wines, again from very small yields, that are possibly some of the greatest of the vintage. The Vosne Villages has all the premier cru Reignots in it (as the Reignots was too small a quantity to keep separate) and hence represents quite remarkable value! The other wines show their respective terroirs extremely well albeit with incredible depth and concentration yet with great nobility (a hallmark of this vintage). As with the best wines of this vintage, there is very gentle extraction and the wines flow seamlessly on the palate with the most wonderfully pure, ripe and aristocratic tannins. Essential wines. |

FRANCOIS LAMARCHE, VOSNE-ROMANEE
We have selected these three wines from this vintage as, for us, they show the best of this domaine in this vintage. The Croix Rameau (really a part of Romanee St Vivant) is pure, vibrant, complex and very deep and long. The Grands-Echezeaux is dense with exotic, multi-dimensional fruit so typical of this wine yet retains excellent balance. The Grand Rue is quite sublime with the very pure, rich, unique fruit of this monopole: very complex with lacey, voluptuous tannins. |

REMI ROLLIN, PERNAND-VERGELESSES
This is one of the most successful villages in the 2003 vintage as it is predominantly in a cooller lying area and more north facing and hence the extra heat has given the wines a flesh and depth of fruit rarely found in other vintages. This is a really great and very special vintage for this area (as it is for wines from Aloxe-Corton). Yields are extremely small yet the fruit retains fabulous purity and definition with extra-ordinary depth. The white wines are some of the most successful in the Cote de Beaune. |

This is one of the finest ranges of white wines in this vintage. Jobard did not acidify and picked in early September when he had proper maturity of the grapes. Nothing in his cellar exceeds 13.5% alcohol and these wines have superb balance, concentration and depth. They retain a lovely balance and Jobard reckons these 2003 wines are like his 1947 wines which are still drinking superbly! They show very good freshness and the character of each vineyard is very evident. |
