Gavi, Piedmont
The Story
La Mesma is a family business, meticulously run by the 3 Rosina sisters: Paola, Francesca and Anna. Nestled in the peaceful, green countryside between Piedmont and Liguria, seemingly far from the sea, the region benefits considerably from coastal influences. The estate’s production relies on 25ha of Cortese vines planted on southerly exposed hillsides at an altitude of about 300m, in fine medium-blend soil. The family’s on-going quest for quality is inseparable from a deeply rooted respect for the environment. The Gavi area is rich in biodiversity, with woods surrounding the vineyards and lots of insects and wild animals free to roam: healthy vines in a healthy environment. The Monterotondo cru’s 15 hectares, on a limestone hill, supplies the fruit for the Black label cuvee.
